UIBE Administrative Rules for Chinese Government Scholarship Students in the Foundation Program

According to Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC), and in order to enforce classroom discipline, ensure class attendance, maintain favorable teaching order and achieve the desired learning effects, UIBE Administrative Rules for Chinese Government Scholarship Students in the Foundation Program is made as follows:

Attendance Policy

  1. Be on time for class and observe the class discipline, no late arrival, nor early leave.

  2. Three times late for class or early leaving no more than 15 minutes is to be recorded as being absent once. Being late for class or early leaving more than 15 minutes is to be recorded as being absent once.

  3. For sick leave or other personal leave, students should hand in a written request to class teacher in advance (Students who catch acute disease can hand in afterwards). Students who go to hospital needs to hand in medical certificate to the teacher afterwards.

  4. For each month, students’ absence rate reaches 5% of the total credit hours, teacher in charge of students management would have a talk with them. If the absence rate reaches 10%, teacher in charge of program management would have a talk with them and report to CSC for the record. If the absence rate reaches 20%, department leaders would have a talk with them and persuade them to quit or get them on drop-out waiting list.

  5. In the case of any of the following circumstances, School of International Education (SIE) would report to CSC for the record.

  6. Absence rate reaches 10% and above of the total credit hours in each month.

  7. Consecutive absence for three days and above.

  8. SIE would report to CSC if students’ absence (including absent from class, sick leave and personal leave) rate reaches 30% and above of the total credit hours and expell them from school.

Classroom Management

  1. Students shall carry correspondent textbooks, materials, handouts and assignments to the class. Every time the teacher will record on the completion of the assignment for each student. Students without assignments or not finished assignments for the first time could not leave school until they copy the unfinished parts twice. As for the students without assignments or not finished assignments for the second time, the course teacher would have a talk with them after class. As for the incorrigible students, SIE would inform the embassy or students’ parents.

  2. When attending classes, students should listen carefully and cannot sleep, talk loudly, walk around, change seats or interrupt teaching. The violators would receive a verbal warning for the first time and stand on a designated spot for the second time. As for the incorrigible students, the course teacher would  have a talk with them after class and they will not have opportunity for the rest of the study.

  3. Do not have food during class time. If there are any violators, his/her snacks would be confiscated and he/she should buy snacks for the whole  classafter class.

  4. Do not play mobile phone, make calls or listen music during class time. If there are any violators, for the first time the teacher would confiscate on the spot and return after class. For the second time the student needs to come to the office to get mobile phone back. As for the incorrigible students, SIE would inform the embassy or students’ parents.

  5. Do not do assignments or read magazines during class time. If there are any violators, for the first time the teacher would confiscate on the spot and return after class. For the second time the student needs to come to the office to get things back. As for the incorrigible students, SIE would inform the embassy or students’ parents.

  6. Students having questions can raise up hands during the class. If students need to leave the classroom, he/she can leave with teacher’s approval.

Score Management

  1. Attend all the weekly tests, monthly tests, mid-term and final exams. Students absent from exams will get a 0.

  2. Observe examination disciplines. Students who are late for exam more than 15 minutes or cheat on exams will get a 0.

  3. As for students whose comprehensive performance ranking is in the bottom 10% and the score is less than 60 during the following tests for two times and more, SIE would report them to CSC, and suggest them withdrawing the qualification for attending graduation exams organized by CSC and extending the length of schooling.

  4. Comprehensive performance ranking of weekly tests, mid-term and final exams in a certain level during the fall semester .

  5. Comprehensive performance ranking of the final exam during the fall semester.

  6. Comprehensive performance ranking of each monthly test (3 in total) during the spring semester.

These rules shall be implemented from the start of the fall semester and apply to the whole academic year (fall semester and spring semester).

I have already known the UIBE Administrative Rules for Chinese Government Scholarship Students in the Foundation Program. I promise to observe these rules.
